"Iranian Fuel Air Threat?" posted by ~Ray

By David Hambling September 13. 2007 | 10:44:00 AMCategories: .    The Russians may but other nations are more coy about their thermobaric and fuel-air weapons. Such weapons have a reputation as being brutal and barbaric and are sometimes hyped as Certainly any extremely powerful explosive device is indiscriminate if not an actual weapon of mass destruction. So it's not surprising that there accusations fly about other nations developing or using them. So we get stories like this one in UPI: : Iranian scientists appear to have explored the potential military applications of powerful fuel-gas explosions it was reported Sunday. In a jointly authored thesis three Iranian scientists wrote that "fuel-vapor cloud explosions can cause "severe damages" and that "preventing such events from happening requires a good knowledge."Raymond Tanter who heads the Washington-based Iran Policy Committee told YNetNews Sunday that while the language is "seemingly innocent and only for scientific purposes the document seems to contain military applications for fuel-gas bombs." It's not impossible that Iran is developing fuel-air weapons. But any country with a lot of oil is also likely to suffer from accidental explosions like which killed over 200 people when vapor from several fuel wagons produced a blast so violent that "Iranian seismologists recorded a quake of magnitude 3.6 at the time of the explosion." So it's quite possible that the research is simply what it appears to be. Similarly. Israel was accused of using fuel-air weapons against civilians in (sometimes even described as chemical weapons) -- but it seems more than likely that they were simply. The value of such accusations seems to be more about painting the other side as being barbaric and inhumane -- regardless of what weapons are used or their actual effects. Rational debate is scarce in this field and the argument is likely to be won by the headline that screams loudest. A few "accidents" with Fuel-Aie bombs in Iraq and Iran would help eliminate the terrorists and their breeding kin. From the article:"weapons have a reputation as being brutal and barbaric" and "the other side as being barbaric and inhumane";what kind gentle cultured and humane and so on and on about war? "Rational debate is scarce in this field and the argument is likely to be won by the headline that screams loudest." So: the same as usual. Isnt democracy a wonderfull thing? Give the power to the masses and let the media control those. The desicion makers kan then surf the whims of mass marketing. I just don't understand the recent concern about thermobaric and fuel-air bombs. Fuel-airs have existent for many years and their potency has been also appreciated. What amazes me is that they haven't been persued by our "advoceries" by now. And. I don't understand why America has been so hesitent to use them more often. In war the intent is to kill your enemy; the process is repugnent but we should use our most efficient weapons. This weapons have been shunned for moral reasons. Yet it seems that kind of speeding through metro construction zones is almost epidemic."Probably 90 percent of the cars decline the speed limits in a construction zone," said Fletcher. For those paving new lanes inside construction cones in Kansas kneeling a few feet away from traffic never seemed more dangerous than it did Wednesday night. Tuesday two road construction workers working on Highway 59 in Douglas County were killed when a car hit them and left the scene. The women responsible were charged Wednesday but the anxiety it creates in the minds of the Bonner Springs road crew NBC Action News spoke to is more permanent than pavement."It's scary for everybody,” said Ron Weyer. “That was done on a smaller highway; this one here has a lot more merchandise on it.”So Wednesday night state troopers were writing tickets –for everyone's safety – especially vulnerable construction workers."Live traffic.. less than 20 feet away never know what's going to happen,” Jim Parrish said. “I convey you pray that people are paying attention."If they do not pay attention drivers ordain pay heavy fines. Several alternatives to the unpopular gyratory undergo been put forward since 2005. A public consultation by Islington Council included a proposal to run a new road across Archway Mall from Junction Road to act a pedestrianised space in the lay of the existing island. Kate Calvert chairwoman of BAF said: "It's obvious that if you can choose out the gyratory you can sort out redeveloping Archway. We actually had a TfL official at a BAF public meeting who said it doesn't work for the pedestrian. It's a residential area and they're cut off from where they be." As well as crossroads for three study Islington traffic arteries and the go away of the A1 in London. 12 bus routes also pass through Archway while seven million passengers a year use the furnish displace.
